How to Check BVN on Mobile

What do we refer to as BVN?

This is just a registration for identifying an individual with his/her personal bank account and the BVN number must be linked to the user’s individual account, BVN includes biometrics such as picture, fingerprint, address, etc. This BVN is made up of an 11-digit number for securing the account of the users.

Bank Verification Number (BVN) was launched by the mother of all banks, Central Banks of Nigeria (CBN) on 14th of February 2014 to increase the rate of security in Nigeria’s banking system on how to identify the rightful owner of the account and to reduce the rate of theft facing Nigerians with the issue of password or pin detection by a fraudster in daily banking institutions. And since then the purpose of this BVN has been greatly achieved.

But still, many customers have been faced with issues on how to access their financial services purposely because they have issues obtaining their BVN number or don’t save the number in the first place.

Interestingly, you can easily obtain your BVN number even without moving close to the bank, talking less of facing unnecessary queues at the customer care stand. BVN can be checked on our mobile phones via any network (MTN, GLO, AIRTEL, and 9MOBILE, etc.) and can be saved for future purposes. This article explains how to check BVN on mobile phones.

Checking BVN made easy on MTN, GLO, AIRTEL, and 9MOBILE

Make sure that you are using the registered sim card connected to your bank account before checking your BVN. Meaning, that you cannot register with MTN and try to check with GLO, even if it is not possible within the same network. The registered number used in registering your BVN is required to be used to achieve this goal. You will always have an error message using a different number (not registered). Below is how to check BVN on mobile phones.

The first thing is to ensure that you are using the line you registered the BVN with in bank. If you registered with MTN, you can’t use an Airtel line to check your BVN.

Then checking your BVN is now made easy through the following steps,:

Dial the USSD code *565*0# on your mobile phone.

Dialing the USSD code*565*0# from your phone dialer will give you access to your BVN.

Then the 11-digit number will show up immediately after dialing and come in form of a message to the user.

Checking of BVN (continues)

It’s essential to know that this service isn’t free of charge, a sum of #20 is required for the service. And anything less than #20 on your phone will deny you access to the Service (BVN number).

Then use it for the immediate service you need it for and save it for future or later purposes. It is advisable to save it for later purposes. Because the customer might be finding it difficult to always pay this #20 whenever it is needed or customer might not have up to the required amount (#20) on the phone when needed urgently.

Another Interesting thing about this BVN number is that if you have different account numbers with different banks, a BVN number is enough to link up with all those accounts without any problem. There is nothing like three accounts three BVN but one or many accounts with one BVN.

And since 2014 when BVN was introduced by the CBN, positive changes have been achieved in the banking system of Nigeria.

Is BVN mandatory?

Yes, it is very important for every account holder because this BVN must be linked with everyone’s account number for identification and to detect any fraudulent actions from fraudsters.

BVN has been serving a lot of purposes and will continue to serve it even in the nearest future.
