How to check and link NIN number on NIMC mobile app. Here is how to check NIN on your Phone and how it is done.
NIN means National Identity Number. It is very essential and important for people who have reached certain stages and ages in life.
NIN aims at giving individuals a unique identification number. Which was mandated by the National Identity Management Commission through the NIMC Act No. 23 of 2007 to register people.
Up to 7phone numbers can be linked with your NIN by using the NIMC mobile app.
Some of the main purposes of having this unique identification number by the NIMC are to have a national identity database. And to put an end to people with two or more identities and to identify fraudsters.
After registration, an 11-digit NIN number will be provided with a national Identity card.
In the year 2018, the NIMC aims to give out the electronic identity card (e-ID) to 70 million Nigerians by December 2019 but still, many Nigerians have been clamoring not being able to have the e-ID after registration for several years, it is something obvious that the NIMC has not achieved their aim.
In fact, it is so disheartening that for the past 7 years that I have registered for the National ID card, still am unable to receive the ID card. But the question is that how long does it take to print an ID card?
The NIMC needs to find a lasting solution to the issues of late in printing the National ID card. Despite the urge, Nigerians are faced with, it is of having something to brag about or show as a Nigerian.
How important is the NIN?
This is just to serve as a means of National Identity for individuals residing in the country, either citizens or those residing legally in the country.
Also, it is expected that the commission provides the citizen and others that are legally residing in the country with a General Multi-Purpose Card (GMPC).
This General Multi-Purpose Card is combined with an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) Card, enabling users to withdraw money from the ATM.
How to check NIN number (11-digit) on Phones
Possibly after your enrollment for the National ID card, you might have lost the printout you are given or not even close to where you placed the printout given to you upon registration. Definitely, that is not a problem, you can check your NIN number on your phone. By dialing the USSD code *346# on the phone number you registered with it, with your voter’s card or BVN registration.
Presently, the USSD code *346# can be used on all networks, be it MTN, Glo, Airtel, and 9mobile without hindrance. But a minimum of #20 is required for the service to be successful. Anything less than this amount (#20) will decline you from seeing your NIN number.
After dialing the USSD code *346# on your phone, your NIN number will pop up. Then it’s advisable to write it down somewhere safe or take a screenshot of the 11-digit for later use. This is purposely to avoid being charged #20 every time you need your NIN number.
Some years back, the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been accepting the use of NIN to register for UTME and DIRECT ENTRY exams but has been suspended until 2021 due to some technical issues affecting registration from the NIMC, this is said by the registrar of the board, Prof. Isiaq Oloyede. The alternative given then was that candidates were to send their Names alone to 50019. This is to create an applicant profile of JAMB instead of NIN for the 2020 registration.
